I’m a fan of Totally Rad Actions, but honestly, I had no intention of buying their newest product, RadLab. Well, that was until they released a 30-day demo version, and I got to try it out.
Long story short, I love it. I can’t imagine editing my pics without it. As a longtime fan of Photoshop actions and someone who doesn’t know nearly enough about Photoshop to really use it, I loved the convenience of actions, but wished that there was some way to “live preview” them so I knew how the image would look before committing.
RadLab does exactly that. I open the image, click on the RadLab tab in Photoshop and right in front of me I get to see live previews of how that image will look with each filter/action (what TRA terms “stylets”). And even better, I can stack as many actions/filters as I want, getting a live preview before I commit every time. And as a self-admitted Photoshop dummy, the new easier to use controls/sliders to finetune each stylet is a godsend.
I don’t know if there is already a way to do this, but I would like to be able to use masks in conjunction with RadLab to apply the effects only to certain parts of the image. That would be great. I would also love for other companies that create actions to work with Totally Rad to make their actions “plug-in” to RadLab because now that I’ve used RadLab, going back to using actions is like returning to the Ice Age.
I’m broke, unemployed and not sure how we’re going to pay the bills when my hubby gets laid off in November. But even so, when my 30-day trial of RadLab expires, I know I’m going to have to buy it, somehow. It is that good.
